About The Author
Lianne Ward is a new and growing writer of fantasy and gothic stories. She is known for writing books that mix strong feelings, old family secrets, and the beautiful, wild land of Scotland. Lianne lives near the windy shores of Scotland and writes stories that feel magical but also real and personal. Her books are inspired by old stories, Scottish traditions, and the emotional journeys we all go through in life.
A Writer Born from Loss and Longing
Lianne was not intent on becoming a writer. It occurred due to sadness, deep thought processes, and above all, a good wake-up call that life is short and you do not need to wait to fulfil your dreams. Throughout several years she did various hobbies trying to discover something that she could feel at home. Nothing did actually suit.
Then, something big changed. Her mother-in-law, Jean, passed away suddenly.
Jean wasn’t just family—she was full of life, always laughing, kind to everyone, and someone who reminded others to enjoy each moment. Losing her was very hard for Lianne. But in the quiet days that followed, Lianne heard a voice in her heart say, “Just write the book.” So she did.
Writing became her healing. It became her voice. Most importantly, it became the home she had searched for for in so many other things. Jean’s energy is still with her in every word, every page, and every sentence. She was the spark—and remains the fire.
Military Life, Independence, and Creativity
Lianne proudly calls herself a military wife. With a partner who is often away serving, she has learnt to find strength and independence in solitude. While military life is full of challenges and uncertainty, it also gave her space to explore her creative side and eventually write.
Themes That Run Deep
Lianne’s debut novel, The House on the Edge of Sky, is a gothic fantasy set on the hauntingly beautiful Isle of Skye. It explores themes of loss, hidden magic, ancestral memory, and the haunting weight of legacy. The main character, Eleanor Blackwood, reflects many of Lianne’s own emotions: feeling out of place, haunted by the past, and unsure of where she belongs—until something old and magical awakens inside her.
What makes Lianne’s storytelling unique is its depth. Her books don’t just tell tales—they echo with questions many of us carry deep within:
- Who am I, really?
- What am I meant to do?
- Can I reclaim what was lost?
- What power lies in our past?
- What happens when we stop running and finally listen?
These questions are layered with folklore, supernatural energy, and a profound emotional honesty that sets her apart in the world of fantasy fiction.
Writing As a Spiritual Homecoming
Writing is not only a form of telling stories to Lianne, but also a form of making her feel like herself once again. She is healing through every book she writes, and her characters are healing. The locations in her stories are real locations in Scotland, such as the high cliffs, hushed hills, and old stone houses that she can spot every day. Her own experiences include such feelings as sadness and hope, the desire to be as though she fits in her books too.
She writes for the quiet souls. For those who feel just a little outside the world. For the ones who carry silent stories in their hearts. For the readers who know that magic is not always loud, but it’s always there, waiting in the shadows, the dreams, and the corners of memory.
A Dream Realized
Seeing her book on the shelf, alongside the very authors who once inspired her, is something Lianne still calls surreal. But it’s also proof that taking a chance on yourself is worth it. Jean would have cheered the loudest. And today, Lianne writes not just for herself but for anyone who has ever thought, “Maybe one day I will…”
That “one day” is now.
